📚A rounded shoulder posture is a position that many desk bound individuals find themselves in and typically involves a combination of scapular protraction (think shoulder blades rounding forward) and shoulder internal rotation.

🔎Biomechanically, this posture is not really a concern in itself as the mechanical stress associated with this position is quite low and easily managed by the structures of the spine and shoulder complex. However, as with any posture, sensitivity can result when this position is held for long periods.

🧠The movements shown here are designed to counteract the positional stresses associated with a rounded shoulder posture by encouraging scapular retraction. Any relief from pain is not because we are ‘correcting’ one’s posture, but because we are moving the body away from a position of sensitivity. It is important that we think more about sensitivity and less about ‘bad’ and ‘good’ movements or postures.
